Are You A Twitterrer

Bookmark and Share

I don't know how many times I've been asked. Are you a twitterer? My answer is a whole heartedly yes – absotwitterly. If you haven't heard of twitter yet you are missing out on the fastest and hottest social networking site around.

When I first took a look at Twitter I didn't get it. Why should I care that John Doe was going to wash his car, or Billy Jr. stubbed his toe while chasing the cat. More importantly I couldn't figure out what all the buzz was about how Twitter was going to improve my website traffic and help my business.

Now that I've figured out Twitter and tested it I see what the fuss is about. Twitter can be addictive and annoying at the same time. The addiction is the speed that new tweets come to your account and trying to keep up with all the chatter. The annoyance is network marketers that over promote while marketing with social networks and the frequency of their tweets. There is a solution though.

The way twitter works is you answer the question/statement “What are you doing”? Your response is in the form of a tweet (140 character conversation tid bits) short but sweet and you can add a shortened link if you like. It is not recommended to over promote; after all it is a social site so be social. Some people abuse this and send tweets only to promote and send them in mass quantities. It is annoying. What I do in this case is unfollow. If you find someone else's tweet interesting you can reply personally (direct message) or for all to see (@reply). So, Are you a twitterer?

The way you get targeted traffic is you have the option to follow fellow twitterers and they you. What I like about twitter is you can use so many different applications to create a marketing blueprint.

Are You A Twitterer Applications That I Like

Tweetlater enables you to input keywords related to your niche. They will send you an e-mail with the people on twitter that are talking about your keyword phrases. I wouldn't be in a rush to follow all of these though. Some people may be having general conversation and not be in your target market. Although engaging in conversation may provide you with interesting results. If you would like to really get the conversation going just ask “Why are you a twitterer?” You can also post tweets to be automated for submission at a later time or date.

Twollow allows you to add keywords related to your target market much like tweetlater except you have the option to autofollow. Again you need to be cautious because it is conversation and not necessarily your target group.

Tweetdeck is my favorite application and once you get the hang of it you may find yourself using it exclusively. Tweetdeck organizes everything into columns for easy access. All friends (people you follow and your followers), @reply's, and direct messages. You can also create new columns to organize your following. For example: Network Marketers, Hobbyists, Nutrition, etc. whatever you like.

Search.twitter is another great way of finding targeted traffic. All you need to do is type in a search term and you will receive tons of people from your target market. Just check their profile and follow if you'd like. Quickly you will have a following that is targeted.

Are You A Twitterer Summary

Twitter is a great social networking site that will get you targeted traffic and your number of following and followers will grow fast. I recommend using tinyurl or tr.im for shortening your links when you tweet. They will use up too much real estate since you only have 140 characters to work with. Tinyurl is best because it still shows where your link is coming from as opposed to cloaking. If they don't like the link then its not a big deal because there are plenty of twitterers in the nest. Tr.im though allows you to track the click through's and also lets you know what countries your click through's are coming from which is useful. Tracking is critical to marketing campaigns not only when marketing with social networks but in all your marketing.

The next time you are asked “Are you a twitterer?” you can respond in less than 140 characters absotwitterly.
